Nether Fortress & Nether Wart Troubles

My entire week was spent venturing into the Nether for nether wart. The portal took me close to a fortress but it contained no nether wart. All I could find were those rooms with the small side stairs and blaze spawners. Over 7 hours later I found another fortress ALSO with zero nether wart. I looked everywhere. I looked around every single set of stairs I found but nothing had anything that even resembled the stuff I've seen in videos with soul sand on the side/behind stairs. I'm a newer Minecraft player, but I looked at a bunch of help sites for this and I can only attribute my inability to find nether wart to bad luck. Two different and very far apart fortresses (both had plenty of blazes) later and still no wart.
Nether wart has been the biggest trouble for me since I started playing Minecraft. I've found 50 diamonds in the same amount of time that I've been looking for nether wart.
Am I just unlucky or do I really suck that bad? A week of no luck is making me want to stop playing because I'm wasting so much time on this one thing.
Help on the matter would be super appreciated.

Who says it has to be either/or?
Srsly, your luck is terrible. I don't hang out in the nether but I don't think netherwort is all that rare.

In one of my older worlds, I went through 6 fortresses before I found one with nether wart in it. Just keep searching, you'll find some soon!

If you find a room with a 1 block lava "well" in the fort there is nether wart close by somewhere. Also to save you some time looking for nether forts they tend to cluster along the Z-axis.

You can use AMIDST to save time looking, if you really don't want to search.

i found the room with a lava well,where do i look from there? i need nether wart for thaumcraft 3, i am playing on Feed The Beast mod pack -direwolf20 does the netherwart spawn differently in FTB?

the nether wart is always on both sides of what I call the "special stairs". The stairs go up from the middle of the passageway, which seems unlike any other stairs in a Fortress. The passageway seems to keep going, but these stairs just drop down into it. The hallways is widened at this spot, and next to the bottom of the stairs on both sides is 2x8 or so patches of netherwart.
Point is, it is always found at the bottom of a staircase, so be sure to always check for ways to move up/down levels in the Fortress cause that's where you will find it.
I did have one instance where lava had flowed down the stairs and destroyed all the netherwart just leaving the garden beds of soul sand that it grows on. So that's possibly what happened to you too. Just gotta keep searching, I used to travel 1000 blocks or more searching for Fortresses in the nether, but I was also on a server that had a "/home" command to make it easy. I've found a lot of fortresses now, just gotta be patient and persistent.

Hmm, You may just be having a bit of bad luck, Nether Wart finding isn't usually that hard for me and is usually obtainable in the first nether fortress i find :P, well all i can say is keep looking
